So I just wanted people to be aware these books are NOT strictly ASL!! Unless you know the language well and can differentiate there is A LOT of Signed Exact English (SEE), which would not be used in true ASL. Wanted to use it with some students I tutor but could t use it the way I wanted to due to all of the English signs.

My daughter is teaching herself sign language and loves the book!

This book sucks when it comes to explaining the grammar for sign language. A lot of the signs in the book don't pertain to my region which is pretty frustrating as well.

He notes that China and India were both quick to recover from the financial crisis, but China's rebound was accompanied by huge debt and deflation, with weak demand. India's turnaround was sturdier, with lower debt and modest inflation. So India's GDP grew twice as fast as China's for a few quarters-the first time that had happened in nearly three decades. And in contrast to China's Yuan, which is pummeled for being artificially undervalued, India's rupee largely floats against world currencies. In the end, it might come down to one deciding factor: can India fix its governance before China repairs its politics?

With insights into the two countries' histories, politics, economies and cultures, this is a well-written, fully documented, comprehensive account of the race to become the next global superpower. Bahl, founder and managing director of India's largest TV news network, compares the superpower prospects of India and China in this meticulously researched but unevenly written study. Contrasting their foreign and domestic policies, cultures, and geographies, Bahl measures their potential for economic growth. Though China doubles its economy every eight years and "spends billion every day to develop world class infrastructure," India has its own advantages: it is the world's largest democracy, 350 million of its people speak English, half its population is under 25, and it boasts a "robust judicial system." Furthermore, India impressed the world with its resilience to the global economic crisis, rebounding with modest inflation, while China experienced deflation and a huge debt. But Bahl warns that India's dithering government could obstruct its potential, lamenting its failure to improve India's crumbling infrastructure while China's "democratic dictatorship" could stymie growth by discouraging innovation. Though the book offers valuable insights into the motivations of the world's two most populous countries, it could have been more tightly edited to eliminate repetition, clichés, and some awkward--occasionally bombastic--phrasing ("India's macroeconomics was beginning to allure"). While his book’s title is posed as a question, Bahl, who credits himself with helping to bring such American media brands as CNBC, CNN, MTV, and Forbes into India, is clearly arguing India’s case as a superpower counterpart to its “non-identical twin,” China. Bahl openly admires China’s white-hot pace of development and its seemingly unlimited financial reserves, but he points to India’s resilient democratic institutions, its relatively young population (median age: 25.3), and its fiscal prudence in resisting the economic forces that ultimately devastated so many of the world’s economies in September 2008. Bahl’s cheerleading for India can wear thin, and he does not address such mitigating issues as India’s conflict with Pakistan and the possible environmental damage of a more developed India. I got a physical copy of this book because I was tired of flipping back and forth through my homework and the ebook. The book looked like someone just printed of their computer and glued a printed and laminated cover on it. I could’ve done that for less.

Though there are some parts that make biology fun, there are others that, well, I'm not a scienve major, so I find it less interesting

I purchased this book in order to learn about John Nash, Jr.'s life. Instead I found a book that rambled on about all sorts of others, but frequently it took pages and pages to get to John Nash, Jr.'s name or anything that related to him. Aware of the scientific revolution sweeping Europe, the Rockefeller Foundation and it's offshoot started by sending American graduate students, including Robert Oppenheimer, abroad." Mirroring the arc of Nash’s own life, Nassar splits the book into several parts: the first part covers Nash’s early life and mathematical blossoming; the second part elucidates his burgeoning relationships and the importance of connections to the outside world, as well as his growing star and significant mathematical contributions. The third section delves into some of the roots of his coming mental illness, both in terms of mathematical failures and turmoil within his personal life, as well as the first acute symptoms and subsequent hospitalization. Nasar does a good job of telling the story without bogging down in mathematical terms. I'm not a big math person so I appreciated this. Nasar does discus the math enough that it is clear what a huge genius Nash was. Before he became ill he was apparently more difficult to get along with than the movie of the same name shows.

I had watched the movie for the first time years back. I watched it recently, and upon impulse bough the book. I am glad I read the book. Usually, I used to think a movie can make you really feel because it's visual. This book changed that. "A Beautiful Mind" is a story of the tragedy that human life can become and like most things tragic, the silver lining usually exists.It is also the story about how after all, no matter how brilliant and intellectually superior we are, we are after all human. We make mistakes, we are unsure of what we want, we are afraid of being a failure, we crave for recognition and we love winning. Life is hard and we have to accept it and face it.

This is a standout biography that manages to combine some fairly detailed discussions of mathematics as a field, the scientific milieu of the 20th century, and mental illness and treatment in the 20th century, with a meticulous exploration of Nobel winner John Forbes Nash's life. The book is wonderful and the depth and breadth of the interviews conducted to make it possible is astounding. Sensitively written, but unflinchingly honest, this is a book well worth the time.

Readers need to know that A Beautiful Mind is loaded with mathematical equations and discussions. I skimmed through or skipped those parts as I am not a mathematician and did not understand what was written. For me, the best part was learning about John Nash's personal life and how his illness affected his life and work. The author does not hesitate to include information that shows the darker side of John. This makes me feel that the book is balanced and honest. It warms my heart to see how much John's friends and colleagues loved him and did everything they could to help him find work. As for how this book relates to the movie, the movie leaves some things out and rearranges some events.
