It is a laser-like approach to identifying the anger and passive-aggressive behaviors that get in the way of many people having the happy productive lives they want or in creating healthy relationships at home or in a work environment.This insights and knowledge this book provides are profound and yet at the same time it can be read and understood at many levels. Dr. Brandt uses clear, realistic and practical examples to illustrate every point. This was a good book. I researched PA books for a while before I bought this one. I am an engineer and know very little about psychology. This book is straight forward, concise and provides realistic approaches to help you.

I can now see very clearly what passive aggression looks like and I'm certainly surprised! For instance, my son has a teacher this year that is ambiguous in assignments. My son has asked for clarity a few times, and been ignored. Before reading this I would have viewed that as laziness, but it isn't! It's part of a passive aggressive personality. I learned a lot even about myself too!

this book is very informative and i would recommend it to anyone who is suffering from being passive aggressive or knows someone who is. i bought this book for myself. i grew up in a family where all your choices were made for you, you did not voice your opinion, and perfectionism what key. i am trying hard to overcome my childhood tendencies because i know they are only hindering me from being who i want to be.

I've been reading and practicing mindfulness and anger management as well as non violent communication. I was convinced my husbands father was a narcissist, but it turns out, he's got very low self worth and is simply passive aggressive. When he moved in with us, my husband basically dug a hole and crawled in. I tried hard to discuss with him these behaviors, but he claimed I was "too sensitive" and that this wasn't affecting him and his sons relationship. Now that he's gone and my husband is slowly coming out of his shell, I am so grateful for this book. It highlights all of our conditioned behaviors without "blaming" but giving us clarity about where they were produced and now, how we MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! It also touches on appropriate ways to communicate as well as all the ways our emotions effect our bodies physically so that people can become aware of what they're feeling in the first place. This book is a combo of several courses I've taken for thousands of dollars, 20 years of therapy and at least 1/2 of the self help books I've read in the past. Well worth the read and the inner work!

Loved this book. My Dad was part of the 11th Armored Division who freed these people. Everything Wendy described, was exactly how my Dad, now 94 remembered. I don't remember him mentioning the babies, but the prisoners, the lice, and giving them l his rations was spot on. My Dad accompanied the photographer, as General Patton wanted this audacity fully documented, so that future generations would never allow something like this to happen again. When I was a child, he had a huge box of photographs - showing them digging the trenches to bury the dead, to how disgusting the kitchen was when they arrived and how quickly the army chefs cleaned it up, and started preparing meals - mainly soups as there bodies couldn't handle meals. This book should be required reading for every high school student.

Wendy managed to write a story of three young women and their lives before and through the Holocaust, when, as prisoners, while pregnant. It was not an easy task from Wendy to follow the route from the homeland or ghetto or a different concentration camp for each of these women, yet she went and visited each of these places -- and then she met with the children, or as she calls them, babies. And.. all that without a hint of pathos or a false note. I know, because I am one of the "babies" and am infinitely grateful to Wendy for telling this story of our mothers in her compassionate and realistic voice.

I am, all-at-once, left aghast, disgusted, and awestruck: aghast because these poor, innocent people were living ordinary lives, when suddenly their world was turned completely upside down. I am disgusted because the Nazis were absolutely barbaric and utterly compassionless, and it hits me so hard every time I read a novel about this oh-so-tragic time in history. And I am completely awestruck that these three women and their unborn babies survived these unspeakable crimes, and were able to persevere.This was hands-down, the most graphic book about the Holocaust I have ever read. It is a side of this abhorrent event in history that is rarely delved into: the trek of pregnant Jewish women and children, and how they were treated by the Nazis. It is something so shameful and unimaginable, that it is no wonder few authors discuss it. Kudos to the author and grandchildren of these brave women for bringing it to light.I struggled getting through this story not only because of the sheer heft of this topic, but also because of the graphic nature of this particular book. I completely understand the reality and necessity of telling the story; but it is so difficult for me to digest that anyone can be so utterly soulless as to inflict this kind of suffering on another human being.I did often seem to lose track of who was whom, as well as the timing of certain events portrayed in this book. At times, I felt as though there was a bit of an organizational issue. However, I still feel as though this is an important read, and one that I will likely never forget.

I have long been interested in the experience of the Jewish concentration camps and ghetto life that victims of the Hallocaust had to endure during the rise of Hitler and his nightmare reign. In all the books that I have read in the past, I have never felt the deep revulsion and sense of being there that I experienced in reading this account of three mothers whose stories are documented here. Throughout this accounting, the senseless cruelty, disease, decay, filthy, tattered clothing and starvation, the author somehow created a thread of hope, spiritual grace, and lightness of being which seemed woven through the tapestry of those horror-filled days. We do not ask "how could they or how did they somehow survive?" because we were right there with them, sipping swill passed off as soup, trying to sleep with no covers while lice and vermin infested our sores. With this author's great writing, the intricate pacing, the deep and thorough research, I felt that I lived it too! I cried at each kindness, lashed out at the sadism and loved the men who freed them, showing them that good could still exist.This book should be assigned reading in English and History and Ethics Classes In high schools for many years.

I mostly enjoyed this book, especially the first quarter and the last quarter. It is meticulously researched and as always, McCullough does a great job putting you in to the time period he is documenting.In this case McCullough takes us back to 19th century New York City, comparing and contrasting Manhattan and Brooklyn. He explains the initial impetus for a bridge over the East River to connect the 2 cities, how it would affect the lifestyles and economies of both cities.The book is covering an exciting time in America when large engineering projects were being accomplished which would lay an infrastructure which made the 20th century economy possible. He covers other bridge builders and their projects notably the Eads bridge over the Mississippi.As a lot of people know the Roebling family sacrifices made the Brooklyn bridge possible. Mcculloughcovers the life of German born Joeseph Roebling an educated engineer who emigrated to Pennsylvania and founded a community of Germans. After about a decade however Roebling went back into engineering and began a series of high profile suspension bridges, notably Roebling bridge in Cincinnati and a railroad bridge over the Niagara river.When Roebling began work on the Brooklyn bridge his son was his main assistant – Washington Roebling. Unfortunately after his foot was injured in an on the job accident, Joeseph Roebling contracted gangrene and died. His son had to take over as the main engineer for the bridge and he accomplished it by using caissons to sink the foundation of the towers. At that time the medical issues associated with working in pressures greater than one atmosphere were not well understood. Washington Roebling basically sacrificed his life due to his becoming chronically ill from having worked in the caissons and suffering the bends repeatedly. He was bedridden for years, but still managed to manage the project from his home in Brooklyn.There were some drawbacks to this book, mostly in the middle parts of it. I don't think that the book did a great job of describing the “how to” part of building the bridge. I had seen a special on the history channel on building the bridge. Without that I don't think the book would have made clear what was involved in the caissons and “spinning the wire” . Also the book gets a little bogged down in the politics behind building the bridge, the graft and corruption involved.Overall though this was a good book to help you understand what went into building a great American landmark.

Do not buy the Kindle edition! Like others have stated, this book has lengthy, detailed descriptions that are hard to follow even by those with engineering experience. I believe the paper version has diagrams that may bump this book up to a 4-star rating for me. This was my first time reading a David McCullough book, and I appreciated the history of the bridge's construction which was clearly thoroughly researched. I could have done with a little less about the political and social history that was only loosely related to the building of the bridge. Those long, droning chapters could have easily been condensed and made the book much more focused and easier to get through. Overall, an OK read.

Having just read McCullough's far breezier "The Wright Brothers" and being at a year's distance from his wonderful book about John Adams, I had to make a few adjustments in my head to get into the rhythm and level of detail contained in "The Great Bridge." I often wonder how Mr. McCullough has the wherewithal to track down the seemingly endless details about his subject matter and then turn everything into a compelling story. Whatever his process, he succeeds magnificently in writing about the Brooklyn Bridge. Every politician, crook (is that redundant?), engineer, onlooker and more are woven together into a tale almost as expansive and astounding as the physical bridge itself. They didn't have electronic design tools back then but oh how people like John Roebling and his son Washington and Washington's wife Emily (come to think of it, were there any like them?) could envision a massive structure that would not only change the flow of commerce forever but create a lasting piece of mega-art. McCullough is a national treasure on a par with any of the grand subjects he trains his attention on. My only criticism is that given all the technical details provided, the reader would be better served by a fuller set of drawings of the bridge and its major components. A little too much is left to the reader to try to visualize. That said, the photos are wonderful and if one has the time to devote to absorbing as opposed to merely reading this book, it will pay off for a lifetime. As an aside, the last chapter ("The People's Day") and the epilogue are stunning, well worth on their own the price of the book and investment of the reader's time.

O. C. Ferrell is The James T. Pursell Sr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Ethics and Director of the Center for Ethical Organizational Cultures, Auburn University. He served as the Distinguished Professor of Leadership and Ethics at Belmont University and University Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the Anderson School of Management at University of New Mexico. He has also taught at University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, University of Memphis, Texas A&M University, Illinois State University and Southern Illinois University. He received his Ph.D. in marketing from Louisiana State University. He is past president of the Academic Council of the American Marketing Association and chaired the American Marketing Association Ethics Committee that developed the AMA Code of Ethics and the AMA Code of Ethics for Marketing on the Internet. He is also a former member of the Academy of Marketing Science Board of Governors and is a Society of Marketing Advances and Southwestern Marketing Association Fellow and an Academy of Marketing Science Distinguished Fellow. He was vice president of publications and is president-elect for the Academy of Marketing Science. The book has good content but I rented the e-book and it does not have text to voice capability. I am getting my MBA, work full time and I enjoy running while listening to a couple of chapters as I feel like I am multitasking. It would be great is this book had the capability to allow that.

The author seems to think that ethics is meant to be complicated. It was easy to understand but the author just keeps grinding the information. It gets too repetitive that you don't learn it. You begin to skip parts. I have read other ethics textbooks and this is one is one of the few books I never want to reference back to. Corporate Governance should not be drag for 3 pages by repeating the same information many times with no drawings or graph to make your point just plain words repeating over and over the same information.

This is a very well written book that makes the material understandable to someone who hasn't ever taken any kind of ethics class. It gives real life application examples and explains the ethical dilemmas from different perspective that the reader otherwise wouldn't think of. It's definitely not perfect though as there were some situations that was slightly difficult to read.

College book rental.. the way to go. Delivery is quick and price is less.
